Trigg vs Can

“If my next fight is Serra, it’s going to be a loser leave town match cause he is on a 2-fight losing streak, so that would be 3 fights in a row that he lost and for me, it would be a 2-fight losing streak if I lost and I’m out. One of us is going to have to go home. If I fight somebody else and I lose, I’m going to have to leave regardless because I would have 2 losses. I would like for them to give me a tomato can, like some low-level martial artist, so I can beat the crap out of somebody for a change and get a win streak going, but the way they work with me, it’s going to be somebody tough no matter who it is.”

– Former number one welterweight contender, Frank Trigg, tells FightHype.com that he’s got one more chance to prove he still belongs with the rest of the contenders in the UFC welterweight division. Josh Koscheck welcomed “Twinkle Toes” back to the Octagon after more than four years away from the promotion with a first round technical knockout at UFC 103 back on Sept. 19. Rumors have been swirling about a possible showdown with Matt Serra in early 2010; however, nothing is official at this time. Win or lose, does Trigg deserve the chance to finish out the remaining fights on his contract? Or is the 37-year-old fighter better off calling it quits if he drops two straight? Opinions please.

“Twinkle Toes” will have to rely on experience and wisdom, apparently:

MMA Quick Quote: Frank Trigg is to MMA what Michael Jordan is to basketball

Frank Trigg

You cannot have LeBron James, you cannot have Kobe Bryant, you cannot have these great basketball stars without Michael Jordan first. You cannot have Barry Bonds without Babe Ruth. It’s impossible. You cannot have the future without the old guys like me that did it first. That’s just how the sport is going to progress. Is it going to get more athletic and more acrobatic? You better freaking believe it because the kids are going to get younger and smarter about it.”

– After more than four years away from the Octagon, former number one welterweight contender, Frank Trigg, tells Las Vegas Review-Journal that he’s ready to give it one more shot before he puts a ribbon on his mixed martial arts career. The 37-year-old fighter considers himself a trailblazer, making his professional debut back in 1997 and working his way up the ranks to earn two world title shots opposite Matt Hughes. He came up empty on both attempts, losing via rear naked choke at UFC 45: “Revolution” and then again at UFC 52: “Couture vs Liddell 2.” His road back to the top of the heap begins in less that two weeks when he takes on perennial division threat, Josh Koscheck, at UFC 103: “Franklin vs. Belfort” on Sept. 19. Will the third time be the charm for “Twinkle Toes?”
