Friday, October 23rd, 2009

The official weigh-in event for UFC 104: “Machida vs. Shogun” took place today (Oct. 23) LIVE at the LA Live Event Deck in Los Angeles, California.

UFC 104: “Machida vs. Shogun” features the first title defense for undefeated light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida against fellow Brazilian Mauricio “Shogun” Rua in the main event of the evening.

In addition, rising talent Cain Velasquez and veteran Ben Rothwell will “wage war” in a super-sized heavyweight showdown.

Nineteen of the 22 fighters set to compete were successful in making their respective weights.

Lightweights Gleison Tibau and Josh “The Dentist” Neer both weighed in heavy for their main card lightweight battle. Tibau was a full pound over the limit while Neer only missed his mark by a half a pound. Both fighters have agreed to go ahead and fight at their respective weights.

Feared welterweight striker Anthony “Rumble” Johnson was the only other fighter on the card to miss weight. The 6′2″ Johnson tipped the scales at a whopping 176 pounds — a full 5 pounds over the division limit. Apparently “Rumble” and his team had already informed his opponent, Yoshiyuki Yoshida’s, camp that he would be coming in overweight.

The fight will go on as planned; however, Johnson will surrender 20 percent of his purse to “Zenko.”

Here’s are the complete UFC 104 weigh-in results:

Note: Fighters are allowed to weigh one pound more than the division limit in non-title fights.

Remember that MMAmania.com will provide LIVE round-by-round, blow-by-blow coverage of the main card action on fight night (Saturday, Oct. 24), which is slated to air at 10 p.m. ET on pay-per-view from the Staples Center. UFC 103 weigh in results LIVE from Dallas for ‘Franklin vs Belfort’ (Updated)

Friday, September 18th, 2009

franky-belfy

The official weigh-in event for UFC 103: “Franklin vs. Belfort” took place today (Sept. 18) from the Dallas Convention Center Arena in Dallas, Texas.

And either the scales were way off or everything really is bigger in Texas. That’s because it took main event participant, Vitor Belfort, four attempts to make weight (196 pounds) for his catchweight fight (195 pounds) against Rich Franklin.

Perhaps that eventual (and permanent) move to middleweight (185 pounds) may not be that easy for “The Phenom” in the future.

In addition to Belfort, The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 8 winner, Efrain Escudero, was barely able to shed a half-pound to hit the lightweight limit (156 pounds) during his numerous attempts.

And former number one lightweight contender, Hermes Franca, didn’t even try to shed the extra four pounds he smuggled into the “Lone Star State,” agreeing to fight Tyson Griffin at 159 pounds.

Franca will now likely have to surrender a percentage of his purse to Tyson Griffin because he missed the mark.

Here are the complete UFC 103 weigh in results and LIVE stream:

Main event:

195 lbs.: Rich “Ace” Franklin (195) vs. Vitor “The Phenom” Belfort (196*)

Main card (Televised on PPV):

265 lbs.: Junior “Cigano” Dos Santos (236) vs. Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic (226)
170 lbs.: Martin “Hitman” Kampmann (169.5) vs. Paul “Semtex” Daley (170)
170 lbs.: Josh “Kos” Koscheck (170) vs. Frank “Twinkle Toes” Trigg (170.25)
155 lbs.: Hermes Franca (159**) vs. Tyson Griffin (155.5)

Under card (Partially televised on Spike TV):

155 lbs.: Efrain “Hecho en Mexico” Escudero (156***) vs. Cole “Magrino” Miller (155)
155 lbs.: Jim Miller (154.5) vs. Steve Lopez (154.5)
155 lbs.: Rafaello “Tractor” Oliveira (155.25) vs. Nick “The Carnie” Lentz (155)
170 lbs.: Brian Foster (170.75) vs. Rick Story (170)
185 lbs.: Tomasz “The Gorilla” Drwal (185) vs. Drew “The Massacre” McFedries (185.25)
205 lbs.: Eliot “The Fire” Marshall (204.75) vs. Jason Brilz (205.25)
205 lbs.: Vladimir “The Janitor” Matyushenko (205) vs. Igor Pokrajac (203)
155 lbs.: Rafael dos Anjos (155.5) vs. Rob “The Saint” Emerson (155.5)

Note: Fighters are allowed to weigh one pound more than the division limit in non-title fights.

*Belfort needed two hours to drop a quarter-pound.
**Franca and Griffin agreed to fight at a catch weight of 159 lbs.
***Escudero needed two hours to drop a half-pound.

Remember that MMAmania.com will provide LIVE round-by-round, blow-by-blow coverage of the main card action on fight night (Saturday, Sept. 19), which is slated to air at 10 p.m. ET on pay-per-view from the American Airlines Center. UFC Fight Night 19 weigh in results for ‘Diaz vs Guillard’

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

ufn19-short

The official weigh-in event for UFC Fight Night 19: “Diaz vs. Guillard” took place today (Sept. 15) from the Cox Convention Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

It all went according to plan — the entire field hit their respective marks — with the exception of Nate Diaz, who came in a half-pound over (156.5) the 156-pound division threshold.

He was given extra time to shed the extra baggage and he did, tipping the the scale at 156 pounds.

Diaz clearly struggled making weight this time around, leading to speculation that this could be his last fight at lightweight. For now, we’ll have to see if the cut has any impact on his performance against Melvin Guillard tomorrow night.

Here are the complete UFC Fight Night 19 weigh-in results:

155 lbs.: Nate Diaz (156) vs. Melvin “The Young Assassin” Guillard (155)
155 lbs.: Roger “El Matador” Huerta (156) vs. Gray “The Bully” Maynard (155.5)
170 lbs.: Carlos “Natural Born Killer” Condit (171) vs. Jake Ellenberger (170.5)
185 lbs.: Nate “The Rock” Quarry (184) vs. “Crazy” Tim Credeur (186)
205 lbs.: Steve “Robot” Cantwell (206) vs. Brian “All American” Stann (205.5)
170 lbs.: Chris “The Professor” Wilson (171) vs. Mike “Quicksand” Pyle (170)
185 lbs.: Jay Silva (185) vs. CB “The Doberman” Dollaway (186)
155 lbs.: Sam “Hands of Stone” Stout (156) vs. Phillipe Nover (155.5)
155 lbs.: Jeremy “Lil’ Heathen” Stephens (155.5) vs. Justin Buchholz (155.5)
170 lbs.: Brock Larson (171) vs. Mike Pierce (169.5)
185 lbs.: Ryan Jensen (186) vs. Steve “The Hooligan” Steinbeiss (185.5)

Note: Fighters are allowed to weigh one pound more than the division limit in non-title fights.

MMAmania.com will provide LIVE round-by-round, blow-by-blow coverage of the main card action on fight night (Wed., Sept. 16), which is slated to air at 8 p.m. ET on Spike TV from Cox Convention Center in Oklahoma City.

Of course, the latest quick updates of the prelim bouts will begin to flow earlier than that right here at around 6:30 p.m. ET.

Remember that UFC Fight Night 19 will serve as the lead-in for the upcoming tenth season of TUF, which features Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson and a solid collection of 15 other heavyweight fighters competing in a tournament-style format to earn one “six-figure contract.”

It’s going to be a sick action-packed night of mixed martial arts. Check out MMAmania.com for all the pre, during and post-fight UFC Fight Night 19 coverage you can handle!
